A north London health agency has been ordered to pay over £45,000 after dropping more than a billion doses of E.coli.
The Government agency, Heapth Protection Agency accidently spilled the deadly bacterium at the Centre for Infectious Deseases in Colindale as a result of faulty seals.
Although no one was harmed, the HPA admitted breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act and was fined £25,000 and £20,166 in costs.
Judge Stephens said: "It was great good fortune that no one was injured or affected. It must be a case when there is acute embarrassment when they find themselves in the dock of the Old Bailey charged with offences of health and safety."
HPA spokesperson said: "The HPA regrets the circumstances that led to today's conviction and accepts the fine. There was categorically no risk to the public from the spillage."
